Former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe has been struggling with the New Jersey Devils this season, and those struggles were evident last night.
There are some Toronto Maple Leafs fans out there who miss the days of Sheldon Keefe, especially since the Leafs were a much more offensive team when he was the bench boss.
However, the New Jersey Devils aren't doing great right now, and many are looking towards Keefe, who can't seem to motivate his guys to be better.
Case in point, last night, the Devils lost to the New York Islanders by a score of 9-0 in what was the worst blowout of the NHL season so far.
It was a truly nightmarish game, especially when you consider how the Devils had double the amount of shots as the Islanders, and were leading the "deserve-a-win-o-meter."
Sheldon Keefe is having a rough go of it in New Jersey
After the game, Keefe came through with some truly tone deaf comments about his team's performance, and how they were actually quite good offensively.
It makes it a challenge because there is a lot of things we did well. That led -- probably offensively in terms of chance generation, the best game we've played in a really long time -- offensively.
One has to wonder if Keefe is in danger of losing his job. With comments like these, there are going to be some angry fans out there, especially when the Devils should be good.
This is a team with Jack Hughes. It's a team with Dougie Hamilton, and a team with real weapons. Unfortunately, they have been a bit of a dud this season.
For the Leafs, they can't really say anything in response. After all, they aren't even in a playoff spot right now. However, it can be said that they are going in opposite directions.
If you're Keefe, this has to be a wake-up call to get your team under control, once and for all.
