The Toronto Maple Leafs have gone through quite a few defenseman this season, and the Philadelphia Flyers were offering up one kid on a silver platter.

One of the big issues with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season has been the sheer number of injuries they have faced to their defensive core.
Guys like Brandon Carlo, Jake McCabe, Chris Tanev, and even Morgan Rielly have had to miss time this season, and it has left the team scrambling.
It has been reported that the Leafs are looking for a defenseman to add to the roster, and it is one of the things that general manager Brad Treliving is working tirelessly on.
However, according to Elliotte Friedman, the Leafs fumbled the bag on a 6'3" 25-year-old defenseman who could have been acquired off waivers about a week ago.

Toronto Maple Leafs wanted Egor Zamula

That defenseman is Egor Zamula who had his contract terminated by the Philadelphia Flyers. As Friedman explains, the Leafs were in on him.
Inexplicably, the Leafs looked the other way, and the Columbus Blue Jackets swept in. Now, the Leafs want to find themselves a puck-moving defenseman.
I think they're looking at what they can do; I think they were in on that Egor Zamula kid; they're definitely looking around...especially a passer, like if there's someone that could move the puck
The best defenseman available for the Leafs right now would undoubtedly be Rasmus Andersson, although according to reports, the asking price is just too high.
This puts Treliving in a difficult predicament going forward, especially with the trade deadline less than two weeks away.
The Maple Leafs need some talent, and with Chris Tanev on the verge of being out for the entire season, and kind of good news would benefit this roster.
