A former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender has landed a new deal with the Ottawa Senators amid rumors and reports surrounding starter Linus Ullmark.

The Ottawa Senators have been dealing with a lot as of late. Just a couple of weeks ago, their starting goalie Linus Ullmark went on a leave of absence.
Yesterday, the netminder was subjected to various rumors about his personal life, which led to a statement from the Senators organization.
The team's current goaltending situation simply isn't good enough, and as a result, the team has resorted to some desperate measures that will raise some eyebrows.
For instance, last night, it was announced that a 37-year-old former Toronto Maple Leafs goalie would be signing a PTO with the Senators' AHL affiliate down in Belleville.

Ottawa Senators sign James Reimer

Of course, that netminder is James Reimer. According to Darren Dreger, Reimer is seen as a goalie who is going to bring some stability while Ullmark is away.
While the PTO is for the AHL, it is expected that he will be given an NHL contract in short order, which is a huge opportunity for the goalie.
Earlier this year, the Maple Leafs brought in Reimer on a PTO during the preseason, although it didn't end up going anywhere. Instead, the team ended up letting him go.
Reimer eventually ended up on Team Canada at the Spengler Cup, which was a great opportunity to get some playing time and remain on the ice.
Now, with the Senators, James Reimer has a chance to prove that he is still a serviceable backup goalie in the National Hockey League.
For Senators fans, this move might reek of desperation. For some Leafs fans, this might just be a feel-good story about a goalie who is living the dream.
