Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander has been on a heater this season, but with the Leafs struggling, the forward has made sure to speak his mind.
With 25 points in 15 games, there is no denying that William Nylander has been one of the best players in the entire NHL this season.
Unfortunately, these point totals haven't resulted in any tangible results for the team. The Leafs have lost four straight, and with an overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Friday, fans want answers.
Luckily, Nylander has been taking a bit of a leadership role in Auston Matthews' absence and has made sure to answer some important questions.
William Nylander candid about the Toronto Maple Leafs' struggles
While speaking to reporters, Nylander was asked if he is worried about the team's performance, especially when it comes to the poor defense.
Interestingly, Nylander wasn't a doom-and-gloomer about any of it. Instead, he was very honest and noted that the team is scoring goals, which is the hardest thing to do in hockey.
I would be more worried if we weren't scoring goals, because that's harder to do.
While this is a good perspective, it does ignore the fact that the Maple Leafs cannot keep goals out of the net to save their lives.
This is something that has plagued the team since the start of the season, and it is hard to imagine it improving as the defensive core remains the same.
The Leafs need to make some changes, and just telling the guys to play harder probably isn't going to be enough.
Only time will tell whether or not anything does, in fact, change, or if this season is doomed to be a failure.
