Alex Ovechkin has been in the spotlight for quite some time now, and once more before the playoffs, he'll be in the spotlight on home ice for the Capitals next game as the team have hatched a plan to honour their long-time captain.

For the entire 2024/25 season, the NHL has waited eagerly to see Alex Ovechkin become the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer, as he continued the amazing celebrations long after scoring 895 against the New York Islanders.
Reportedly, The Great 8 turned down spots on late night television, as he did not want to be a distraction for the team ahead of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but now, it's been revealed that one more time, he will indeed have to be a distraction.

According to reports, the Capitals plan to honour their long-time captain for making NHL history ahead of their next matchup at home on Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes with a pre-game ceremony.
After the ceremony that took place following the iconic 895th goal of his career, some fans may potentially be sick of seeing the celebrations, but given that we may never see someone get this close to 900 again, it makes sense that the league and his team would want to honour him.
Following this ceremony, it's very likely that the Capitals locker room and the entire organization will want to turn their attention to the Stanley Cup Playoffs as they will likely enter as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference with incredibly lofty goals, but for now, fans should buckle up to celebrate their No. 8 once more before that time comes.
