Fan verbally attacks 19-year-old hockey player calling him a 'traitor' after disappoint World Juniors tournament
Sports fans are some of the most ruthless, arrogant, and downright ignorant people on the planet, and sometimes when you hear the things that come out of their mouths you do a double take and ask yourself «Did they really just say that', as was the case recently as the Michigan Wolverines played.
Luke Hughes, the fourth overall pick in the 2021 National Hockey League entry draft by the New Jersey Devils who returned to the University of Michigan fresh off a trip to the World Junior Hockey Championship was subjected to some rather unpleasant heckling as seen and heard in the short video clip posted.
In the video as Hughes and his teammates take the ice a spectator is heard saying «Hughes, you let America down. Traitor!»
Now as a sports fan myself and my first passion being the game of hockey I can understand the fans' frustration as the Americans certainly underachieved finishing third after losing the semi-finals to Canada and beating Sweden for bronze however fans need to learn tact and restraint when voicing their displeasure, especially when the fan is likely a bit older than Luke Hughes who's 19.
Unfortunately, we will always see this in sports where fans will take things over the top. Athletes expect to hear individuals voicing their displeasure, but sometimes it goes way too far
