Top Young Defenseman Threatens To Leave The NHL Over Contract Dispute

The Hurricanes have long been a difficult team to work with, and now Alexander Nikishin's camp has figured that out as they threaten to return home to Russia.
The Carolina Hurricanes made waves late in the season, as the team announced that finally, after being drafted back in 2020, Russian defenseman Alexander Nikishin was headed to North America to join the team.
However, the situation has been a strange one, as the 23-year old blue liner has yet to play with the team, and now we know it's due to issues with the Hurricanes and a potential contract.
Surprisingly, Nikishin's agent has now gone on the offensive, revealing that dealing with the Hurricanes has been incredibly tough, stating that 'everything is complicated with them'.
The biggest stunner of all came late in the piece with RB Sport, as Nikishin's agent threatened to take his client back to Russia unless something can be worked out, either that or they will officially request a trade to a different NHL team.
"The Carolina team is behaving inexplicably, not just for us but also for scouts and representatives from other NHL clubs. Everyone is shocked and outraged. At this moment, we cannot comment on the situation because the club's actions defy common sense. If this continues, Alexander will either go back or we will ask for a trade."
Over the last three seasons in the KHL, Nikishin has tallied 157 points in 193 games played, and with great size to go along with that skill at 6-foot-4 and 214 points, the belief was that Carolina would be eager to sign him to a new deal.
However, these issues with Carolina have continued, as many believe they make things too hard to deal with during contract negotiations, and after the mistake they made with Mikko Rantanen earlier this season, it appears they could now be making another with Nikishin.
