Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson has been on the Toronto Maple Leafs' radar this season, although it seems like a tough bargain is being driven.
Rasmus Andersson is a defenseman who the Toronto Maple Leafs would love to have on their team, as he can move the puck, and he is right-handed.
With Chris Tanev set to miss the rest of the regular season, bringing in someone like Andersson would be a huge help, and it could put them in the upper echelon of Cup contenders.
The Leafs are on a roll right now, and if they keep playing like this, then it feels like the team has a real chance at making it to the postseason, beyond just a Wild Card spot.
Having said that, getting Andersson on the team is not going to be easy, especially with the Flames bordering on sabotage with their negotiations.
Brad Treliving frustrated with the Calgary Flames
According to James Mirtle on an episode of the JD Bunkis podcast, the Flames are not negotiating in good faith and are making Treliving pay more than anyone else.
This has led to a lot of frustration within the Leafs' front office, and it is starting to feel as though the team would rather just focus on acquiring someone else.
Ultimately, this is a hurdle that Treliving is going to have to get over. There appears to be a Maple Leafs tax, and it's something the team has dealt with for a long time.
With all of this in mind, there are other options available. For instance, the Leafs could easily go after someone like Dougie Hamilton, who is there for the taking.
It's a tough situation to navigate, but that is why someone like Treliving is paid the big bucks. He is there to figure this out as prudently as possible.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs make it out of the trade deadline with some new weapons to impress the fans.
