Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews had a sensational performance against the Colorado Avalanche, and he made sure to rub a fan's nose in it.
Auston Matthews has been on fire over the last few weeks, and it seems as though he has saved his season from the depths of despair.
There was a period of time when Leafs fans were calling for him to be traded, and for some sort of rebuild to immediately follow suit. Since that time, Matthews has scored a hat trick and has gotten back to his usual self.
It feels like the captain is on the precipice of something great, and after a win against the Colorado Avalanche last night, there is no denying that the Leafs are all the way back.
They are playing some inspired hockey, and they are leaving opposing fans beyond frustrated with a brand of offensive hockey that is a ton of fun to watch.
Auston Matthews is the ultimate troll
In fact, after Auston Matthews sniped a shot top shelf on the Colorado Avalanche last night, a fan gave the double-bird to Matthews.
Somehow, Matthews spotted the fan, looked directly at them, and just smiled while raising his arms. It was absolutely hilarious and proof that Matthews had the upper hand.
The Leafs are now on a 10-game point streak, and appear to be in the driver's seat. They are now in a playoff spot, which is where they should have been all along.
Since the firing of Marc Savard, they are playing their best hockey of the season, and you have to wonder why Savard was such a problem to begin with.
Either way, fans aren't going to complain about any of this. Their team is playing well, and that is something to celebrate going forward here.
Whether or not the Leafs can keep this going is something that still very much remains to be seen at this juncture.
