Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander returned to the lineup on Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks, and it was a major performance.
William Nylander has been made privy to some uncomfortable conversations this past week, and none of them are particularly fair.
There are some who believe that the forward could be traded. After all, he missed six games, and the Leafs got points in all of them.
For instance, Nick Kypreos came through with a truly bizarre trade proposal in which Nylander goes to the Seattle Kraken for Brandon Montour and Jamie Oleksiak.
On Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks, Nylander made a complete mockery of these conversations with a virtuosic performance.
William Nylander silences his critics
In the team's 5-0 win, Nylander ended up finishing the game with a goal and two assists. He now has 44 points in 34 games and leads the team.
It was the type of performance that proves why the Maple Leafs are a better team when their superstars are in the lineup.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the Wild Card hunt now, and if they can keep winning games, then there is a real chance of them going to the postseason.
Their difficult start put them in a tough spot, but going forward, it does seem like the Leafs can be contenders if they continue down this road.
The goaltending and the defense have been sensational, while the offense is clicking and scoring goals when it counts the most.
Their wins may not always be the prettiest, but this is a scrappy team that might just surprise some people as 2026 continues to take shape.
